“The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:5b-6
As we all wandered all day around the crazy city of Miami, we all anxiously awaited the time when we could finally board the plane. I write this post from one of the extremely luxurious airport seats, where we are currently seated in terminal D6 with 4 hours until we take off. I can say that every fiber of my being is anxious to get on that plane, fly seven hours, and then finally touch down in Brazil.
This verse was a verse that I chose for this day about 3 weeks before the trip. I had picked one verse for each day hoping that it would speak to my situation for that day, praying that it would be of encouragement. And as I went through this day with my team, I was constantly reminded of the presence of God and His ability to clam all my nerves and to take away the anxiousness that I feel.
Today I have truly felt the peace of God. This day could have easily been a drag, a whole day of waiting and then a seven hour flight, but this reminder saved me from that. God is so much more than out little worries, rushes, and wants – although he is aware of all of these, he brings a peace and protection that we cannot comprehend.
All day I was not overwhelmed with being anxious to leave, or with the worries of tomorrow, but rather I was at peace for the part of the trip that could have easily become one of the most dreadful days. After all, who wants to spend a whole day in Miami worrying about if we have to lug around our 13 bags of luggage, when we can check in, if we have taken the right train, or even if our shuttle will be on time. I certainly did not want to have all of these worries, but as we were faithful and brought our request to God, we were shown that He truly is near, and he does bring a peace that I will never understand. God has provided a day of good for me. It was awesome to see the city, the water, some sand, and even have a delicious lunch thanks to Ron Kendall. I tried gelato for the first time, and even got a rockin’ shirt to prove that I have in fact been to Miami. Today has been good, lots of walking, lots of waiting, but nonetheless God is near, we do not have to be anxious because our requests are made known to him and through that we get the blessing of experiencing his peace and protection.
Keeping it real from Miami International Airport.
