It’s not my turn to blog but when I was sick, we missed a day that I was supposed to so I guess I can make up for it now and you’ll get 2 for 1 when Brandie blogs tonight.
Morgan and I got the opportunity to spend some time with Rogerio Soares today (me for the first time). For about an hour and a half he talked with us about the sports ministry that he and his family are doing through World Renewal and Athletes in Action. It was great to hear what they have been doing for so many years and the faithfulness of his work as well as his family.
They have lived in Brazil for many years but only moved up to the northeast less than 3 years ago and the difference from the south is very great. He talked about the change that his family has had to go through (I also talked with his son, Timothy, a few days ago about the differences) and he mentioned it wasn’t easy at first. BUT, he knew that God had called them to the area to continue to do His work.
This family is another example of following God’s leading whether it’s tough or not.
As he talked, Morgan and I both got excited about future possibilities in sports ministry in Brazil. Morgan is seeking what God has in store for her after graduation and I’m wondering what a Barclay College women’s basketball mission trip to Brazil might look like.
It’s been a blessing to me to connect with people that have a similar heart for using sports as ministry. I know I will be able to use some of the things we’ve talked about and that I’ve seen to continue doing what God has called me to do in Kansas. I only hope our time here will be a blessing for them as wel.
